About

Health and fitness have been a life long passion for Josie, founder member of Vitalflow.  It started in her teens when she quickly realised that team sports were not for her.  She attended a boarding school on the edge of Dartmoor and preferred cross country running, quickly realising the enormous benefits of keeping fit.  A chance find in the school library of a book featuring exercises very similar to Pilates marked the beginning of what was to become her career.

At a bit of a loose end after leaving university, Josie found work in London and spent most of her spare time in a dance studio in the basement of the Body Shop in Victoria.  It quickly became apparent that it was possible to make a living out of teaching fitness classes.  These were the days of Jane Fonda Aerobics/Arlene Phillips Pineapple Studios, with health clubs springing up everywhere and before long Josie was teaching early morning classes before work.  She embarked on her training to become a fully qualified RSA/YMCA fitness instructor with London Central YMCA.  Over the next few years she went on to teach at some of the best known health clubs in West London - Roehampton Club, Bank of England Sports Club, David Lloyd, Esporta, Holmes Place, to name but a few - and has taught most popular forms of studio based exercise.

By the late '90s yoga was enjoying a revival and Pilates was becoming main stream, having been used by dancers for decades.  Said Josie " the slow pace and levels of concentration required were a real struggle at first, but within 2 months, the results were undeniable.  For the first time in all my years of working out, I had a flat lower abdomen and my body was strong and flexible rather than bulky and stiff.  It was a wonderful way to relieve stress and a class always left me with a great feeling of wellbeing."

Josie trained with the Pilates Institute, completing the Matwork course, Pilates on the Ball, Backcare and One to One Assessment.  She also studed the theory side of yoga with the BSY.

Four and a half years ago, Josie moved from West London to the Kent countryside with her family, but still travels to London each week to continue seeing her clients.  Her local classes are popular and she has a substantial portfolio of local clients, which continues to grow.

Josie practices Pilates and yoga every day and runs with her dogs, Rufus and Bonnie Mai, in the mornings.  She is an inspiration to anyone who struggles to find the time to take care of their health and fitness in an increasingly busy world.
